And then there was one

Chris and Ethan were sick last week (well,  a Chris STILL is actually) and now Gavin's down for the count. Woke vomiting on me. Here he is on the couch after "waking up."

I feel like an injured gazelle waiting for a lion germ to pounce on me for its prey.

Ethan's on the mend

After 5 days of high fever,  sore throat,  no school,  and neg strep test,  the doctor told me it could be a virus or mono. I freaked imagining Ethan confined to resting while his little motor wanted to GO for a month?!

On cue, this morning his fever broke and his energy returned from about 0 to 75 % (100% for an average boy).  Rejoicing is just the virus! Bonus, he had the energy to play with his new puppy for the first time!

Except... now Chris caught it. Frick.

When all my kids are sick

(Or just got her shots),  this is how I fold laundry.

Heading to Ped today as Ethan's on his fourth day of fever,  perfect time to introduce and housetrain a puppy! Thank GOD Chris has been home for night duties.  Wait,  it really is perfect time after all.

When mommy's sick

Ain't no body happy.

(From two days ago,  caught Gavin and Chris' stomach bug).  Photos taken to use as my bat signal that Chris needed to come home from work.

Luckily for the three of us Chris did.

I jinxed myself

Remember when I declared "I totally nailed today"?

Never doing that again.

Gavin just woke up vomiting all over his bed.

Out of no where.

Bloody karma.

I'd take being sick any day

Over my baby being sick!

The cold turned out to be strep.  Who knew strep was accompanied by vomiting? Apparently that's par for the course along with his fever, chills, aches, and of course, very sore throat.

Three days out this week, two days out for pink eye a week ago. Remember what I said about how do parents keep their jobs?!

I had one very nauseous snuggly boy and another very active boy who wanted the couch cuddles to end and "TACKLE!"

Sorry Gavin.  I promise we'll play football tomorrow.

Cootie Costume

Ethan caught the cold. I think Gavin's pulling out all the stops to scare away the germs.

No sick leave here

A little hot tea and honey to keep going during my cold. Blech, I'm feeling miserable.

Using a mug I made in pottery class brightened my day though!

Ugh...again.

Another school delay today. My defroster melted any and all ice on my windshield within 5 minutes and roads were clear.  Groan.

So they joined the errand to Home Depot. Funny enough there were tons of parents with their kids doing the same thing.

Oh...And don't worry.

The forecast is clear tomorrow.

But Gavin won't be at school or anything. Yup. He caught his brother's pink eye.

Weekday Warriors

You know those home improvement commercials that celebrate the "weekend warrior"?  Well I can't get ANYTHING accomplished on the weekend with both boys home solo. I have to save big jobs for when one is gone. And Gavin finally had school today.

Ethan did not, but I figured we'd give it a whirl.

Putting up a new backsplash in the kitchen went great, he was the cutest helper ever!  He encouraged me for three hours straight until Gavin returned. Telling me it wasn't crooked (when it was) and a mistake wasn't visible (when it really was). And even asking for hug breaks. I didn't realize how much he'd bask in the attention of having just the two of us doing an adult project.

Here's some previews of how it looks so far!

I'd have lost my job by now

After about two weeks off of school where I'd likely have used all my leave, there's been 6 scheduled school days.

Out of those 6, there's been 1 snow day and 2 delayed openings (2 hours).

And when I picked up Ethan from school today, Hellllooooooooo pink eye. One doctor appointment later, one prescription eyedrop later, and one more day of missed school tomorrow for the books.

How do families of elementary school children do this when both parents work, and no family in the area?  REALLY, I want to know because I'll be returning to your ranks one day and this question keeps me up at night.

Grateful for the opportunity to be here to handle all of these unexpecteds but anxious about the future.
